i learned to sew as a kid from my grandmother, who made and altered costumes for my dance studio. we would stay up late together gathering tulle and rhinestoning leotards.
i revisited this formative process during the pandemic, when i began making lingerie from thrifted bedlinens.
whether creating a garment from scratch or altering an existing one, my sewing process is very intuitive. i start with a material i'm drawn to, almost always secondhand, and follow where the fabric takes me.
i'm interested in nodding to trends while interpreting them in a way that plays up their handmadeness. i love raw edges, airbrushed details, visible serging, and strange shiny materials.
